Oktoberfest
Es ist Zeit, Deutscher Stil zu feiern. That's right, it's time to party German style. And where better than at the home of our friends, Randy and Cathy with their authentic German connections (Cathy's mom is German and her parents have a home in Germany.) Even though current Oktoberfests start in September and run into early October, we thought we would honor the first Oktoberfest (not really) by holding ours on October 17, which was the last day of the original Oktoberfest in 1810. Actually, it just fit all our schedules really well. Steve's parents came for a visit and we knew they would enjoy joi
ning us for all that yummy German food. It was really fun
learning to make authentic German dishes (considering it is my heritage) from someone who knew what she was doing. We (well mostly Cathy) made cucumber salad, red cabbage, German potato salad, spaetzle with mushroom gravy, jaeger schnitzel, sauerbraten, smoked sausage and sauerkraut, reisling to wash it down, and of course, Sam Adams Oktoberfest beer. After spending the afternoon in the kitchen, we loaded up our plates and loaded down our bodies before throwing on some polkas and dancing the night away. It was such a good time, we're already getting the menu ready for next year's party.
