Hallelujah, ha
llelujah - today is the day we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior . . . and guess what? The Easter bunny stopped by, too. It's already shaping up to be a great day. And yet, we've already hit a snag in our Easter plans. No early Easter egg hunts or digging into baskets of candy for this family. Nope. Our normal Sunday mass schedule was changed from 11 am to 9 am, so that means that the eggs and candy will have to wait until after church. I'm the meannest mom ever, but there it is. It's purely selfish on my part. Knowing that I'd miss it all while getting ready for church, I asked the boys if we could wait until
after church to search for eggs and baskets. Poor Wesley had a meltdown. Preston didn't have a clue. Phew - at least they weren't both brought to tears. It actually went by pretty quickly though - Father Mark kept it short and sweet. We probably would have been
out of there in 45 minutes if it wasn't for the neverending communion line (it was very, very, very crowded today.) The boys behaved beautifully and we kept our after mass fellowship to a minimum 'cuz I know that their patience (Wesley's at least) was wearing thin. When we arrived home we discovered that the Easter bunny had stopped by while we were out and left the boys a "treasure" trail to find their baskets. Wesley went right to work deciphering the clues, while Preston went right to town eating the candy in the eggs he'd found around the livingroom. "Beans" was all we heard for the next 20 minutes. We did get him to tag along for the last few clues so that when the final clue directed the boys outside, we were altogether. It w
as priceless seeing their reactions when they first laid eyes on the loot. The "Easter bunny" had left a bicycle for Wesley and a wheelbarrow for Preston. Inside the wheelbarrow were the boys baskets filled with presents and candy. Wesley was in awe of the bike. Preston, however, barely noticed the wheelbarrow or the bike. His attention was immediately drawn to the large pink easter egg in his basket - "big one" he shouted, knowing that it was filled with "beans." Once we got the stuff inside (it was really windy out) the boys tore into their baskets. The Easter bunny must be in cahoots with the dentist because he opted more for clothes and toys over candy this
year (though th
ere were still a few treats hiding in eggs.) They were both very excited to find new Spiderman clothes in their baskets and it wasn't long before the suits came off and the Spidey sweats came on. Dinner was yummy and a simple fare (just spiral ham, potatoes, carrots, & green beans) with carrot cupcakes for dessert. I tried to keep it simple but still ended up exhausted by the end of the day. But I wasn't the only one and we were able to get the boys to bed early. Thanks for coming Yaya and Papa - we had a great day!
