Perfect Snow Days
Don't you remember when you were a kid, waiting for that perfect snowfall? The kind perfect
for snowmen and snowball fights?
The kind of snow perfect for whipping down the hill
on a sled or building a snow fort high enough to protect you from your opponents snowballs? And then to make it even better, you get to experience it all on a day that hints of Spring. A day that's cold enough for snowsuits and snow boots, but doesn't bite at your nose or send you in too early. Now double it, and that is how we spent our past two afternoons. It was fantastic. I felt like a kid again. The four of us went out back after church yesterday with our snow gear and our sled and had a ball. We discovered that our small back hill is actua
lly perfect for sled riding and Preston discovered that that is his new favorite winter activity. He just couldn't get enough of it. Wesley was into
at first as well, until Steve mentioned that he was going to build
a fire, and then that is all Wesley could think about for the next hour . . . that and the marshmallows that he would be roasting. It was amazing. There was no breeze. The temperature was in the low 40s, and we spent the good part of our afternoon rolling around in the snow with the kids. I don't know who enjoyed the sled riding more, the kids or me. It was like revisiting my childhood when we had snow like this every winter and the snowbanks were so high that you could actually sled ride down them. And since Monday had such similar weather, of course, we had to do it again. It really made the long winter and all the snow seem much more tolerable. Though, once March hits, even the most perfect snow day won't be able to contain my longing for Spring.
