Botanical Gardens

Today, Yaya and Papa treated us to a trip to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay. We'd never been before, but have wanted to for some time and today's weather lent us the perfect opportunity. The Botanical Gardens has been a multi-million dollar undertaking and is still a work in progress, but it is really something to behold. Located just outside of Boothbay Harbor the 248 acre gardens include beautiful shoreline walks, a sprawling great lawn & arbor, a meditation garden that looks out over the Sheepscot river, a really cool frog pond, and a hillside rhododendron garden that leads down to a waterfall fed pond. Wesley loved the fairy village where creative kids can use their imagination to create homes for our mysterious woodland friends. There is also the new Lerner Garden of the Five Senses which is set to open next week, so we'll have to check it out on our next visit. And the really exciting project in the works is the Harold and Bibby Alfond Children's Garden set to open next summer. It is said to be a garden like no other, and looking at the project plan, I tend to believe it. So here is a look at our day at the gardens. Oh, and thanks for the membership Papa - we'll definitely use it.
